Curriculum
In all classes, children explore various activities to enhance motor skills, develop sensitivity, and strengthen concentration. Our curriculum focuses on problem-solving and fostering new insights.

Toddler Class
18 months – 2 ½ years
Rolling Hills Montessori offers a thoughtfully prepared Toddler program designed to support this important stage of growth. Our environment is rich in language, movement, and hands-on experiences, helping toddlers build foundational skills that naturally carry into our Pre-Primary and Transition programs.

Toddler Activities
Our Toddler classroom provides a wide variety of age-appropriate materials that allow children to explore and grow at their own pace. Toddlers enjoy music classes and participate in our annual performances, alongside our preschool and TK/Kindergarten students. Classrooms are transformed into cultural exhibits featuring music, dance, and shared experiences. The Toddler students enjoy field trips, cultural celebrations, and opportunities to share their family traditions.

The Curriculum
Our curriculum supports the development of motor skills, concentration, independence, and sensory awareness in a nurturing setting. Upon completing the toddler program, which includes toilet learning readiness, children may transition smoothly into our preschool program.

Preschool
2 ½ – 4 ½ years
Our Pre-Primary program offers a rich Montessori curriculum designed to support independence, curiosity, and a love of learning. The curriculum includes five core areas:

-
Practical Life – Children develop independence, responsibility, and respect for themselves and their environment through activities such as pouring, spooning, tweezing, and sorting exercises, amongst many others.
-
Sensorial – Hands-on materials engage all five senses to help children refine their understanding of color, shape, texture, sound, taste, and smell.
-
Language – A phonetic approach supports early reading, writing, and oral language development. Spanish and Mandarin Chinese are included once per week.
-
Math – Concrete, hands-on materials guide children from understanding quantities to abstract mathematical concepts.
-
Cultural Studies – Children explore art, geography, science, history, and nature, including continents, cultures, and the natural world.
Unit studies may include topics such as the solar system, seasons, weather, the human body, and animal life.

Our multi-age classrooms encourage collaboration, confidence, and peer learning, allowing younger children to observe and grow while older children develop leadership and responsibility.

Preschool Activities
Preschool students enjoy field trips, cultural celebrations, and opportunities to share their family traditions. Our annual performances are a school-wide highlight, where children explore the arts through music, dance, and classroom exhibits.

Spanish, Mandarin, Art, and Music are part of the regular curriculum.
Optional extra-curricular classes are available for children ages 3 and up, including:

-
Dance
-
Gymnastics
-
Music

TK / Kindergarten
4 ½ – 6 years
Our TK/Kindergarten program follows the Montessori approach across five core curriculum areas, supporting independence, confidence, and a love of learning:

-
Practical Life – Children continue to develop independence, responsibility, and respect for themselves and their environment through 'free-choice' activities which grow in complexity.
-
Sensorial – Another 'free-choice' area that engages all five senses in a higher complexity from the Preschool component, to help children develop in this category.
-
Language – A phonetic-based program supports more advanced reading, writing, and oral language development. Spanish and Mandarin Chinese are included once per week.
-
Math – Concrete materials with built-in error control guide children from hands-on learning to abstract understanding at a more advanced level.
-
Cultural Studies – Children explore art, history, botany, geography, and science with hands-on materials.

Unit studies vary every month and cover a multitude of subjects.

TK/Kindergarten Activities
Field trips are planned throughout the year to complement classroom studies. Students also share their family heritage and traditions, with parents encouraged to participate. As with the Toddler and Preschool components, the TK/Kindergarten students participate in and study multicultural activities.

Spanish, Mandarin, Art, and Music are part of the regular curriculum.
Optional extra-curricular classes are available for children ages 3 and up, including:

-
Dance
-
Gymnastics
-
Music
